Description
If you get to the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon on the south coast of Iceland when the wind is calm, you are treated to amazing reflections of icebergs large and small as they break off from the glacier. During our visit, many photographers were lined up along the edge of the lagoon taking advantage of the beautiful sight when….you guessed it…..someone decided it would even more amazing to start throwing stones into the water ☹ sending up a silent groan from all the photographers! Soon after, a breeze kicked up and the magic was gone for the day. A century ago the entire area was frozen but an increase in the world’s temperature since then caused the vast frozen landscape to collapse into a mass of shattered ice and liquid to create the lagoon. The lagoon has an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean, so that these icebergs flow out the short river to the ocean and are smashed by the waves to create the beautiful forms at ‘Diamond Beach’. The ethereal lagoon is a part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland's largest national park, and the second largest national park in Europe. Vatnajökull National Park was added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2019.

Wow! So mesmerizing and surreal! It looks more like clear ice than snow and water. Glad you were able to capture it!
