Description
It's difficult to appreciate the immensity of Il Duomo, the cathedral in Milan Italy. It is 525' long and 300' wide, has more than 2000 statues inside as well as 52 of these huge pillars representing the weeks of the year. The Gothic cathedral took centuries to build: the far end near the altar started in 1386 with final touches being added as late as 1965! It was built to hold 40,000 worshippers, the entire population of Milan at the time construction began. Dedicated to St Mary of the Nativity (Santa Maria Nascente), it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. It is the second largest church in Italy after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the third in the world.

What a beautiful structure, wonderfully captured! They sure don't make them like this anymore do they?
