Description
One of my favorite hikes in Cinque Terre Italy is to the sanctuary above Riomaggiore, where you can see all the way up the Cinque Terre coast to the north and far down the coast to the south. On a sunny day, it is just glorious, with the blue sky above and the shining waters of the Mediterranean below. So I was a bit disappointed on this particular day to arrive at the viewpoint and be greeted by very cloudy weather. After spending some time exploring inside the sanctuary, we got ready to hike back down when the sun broke through the clouds, shining its light on the town of Volastra, the sanctuary town in the hills above Manarola. The sun also touched a bit of the coastline where the town of Corniglia sits perched atop the headland on the left. The vineyard-covered slopes of Cinque Terre are seen in the foreground.
