I had some trail directions for a hike above Tremezzo, along the west shore of Lake Como in Italy, that seemed more descriptive than exact. But I took off anyway. All was going well for awhile. Then I had the sinking feeling that I had missed a turnoff, having gone much farther past the last waypoint than the directions seemed to indicate. But I figured I was climbing higher and getting some nice views of the Lake Como…and the trail must be going *somewhere* so I carried on. As long as there weren’t a lot of turnoffs I couldn’t get lost and it was a lovely day! I ended up with a hard climb but several hours of beautiful and peaceful vistas. The town below was either Tremezzo or Mezzegra as they are quite close together. On the way back down, I did discover the missing turnoff…with a VERY faded trail marker that faced you when you were going downhill and not uphill! Well, that would have to be for another day.
