Description
Boating across Lake Wanaka on a serene spring morning, we were headed to Mou Waho, a predator-free island in the middle of Lake Wanaka. And on this morning the light was so delicate making the surroundings seem magical. Lake Wanaka is massive, 74 square miles and 300 meters deep and carved out by a glacier thousands of years ago. Mou Waho is a bird sanctuary that was cleared of introduced predators that maim and kill endangered native New Zealand birds, such as cats, mice, possums, stoats, and weasels. Hike to the top of Mou Waho and there is a lake (called Arethusa Pool) and a small rocky island in that lake. That makes it island on a lake (Arethusa Pool), on an island (Mou Waho) on a lake (Lake Wanaka) on an island (the South Island of New Zealand) on a lake (the ocean). A fantastic day!

Joan, Such a beautiful peaceful scene that you have captured here. Love the clouds sitting low around the mountains on each side of the lake and the calm of Lake Wanaka, L/F
