Description
In Aranjuez Spain, there are various touristic walking routes to help you explore the city. On one of them was a place called Medinaceli Palace. Expecting to find a ‘palace’, I admit I walked right past it. Although it occupies an entire city block, its austere style, devoid of ornamentation, does not make it stand out. It was built by the Dukes of Medinaceli in 1773 for the family residence. From its main entrance, you pass through a vaulted passageway to a stairway (seen here) and an interior patio in the center of which there is a large fountain. Initially conceived as the residence for relatives of the Dukes, it currently houses several private homes which are accessed from the interior patio. I must have looked suspicious leaning against the wall to take a photo as I got some odd looks from residents.
