Description
In a city not known to Americans as a place for modern architecture, the modern pedestrian Arganzuela Footbridge in Madrid Spain crosses the Manzanares River and provides access to the beautiful new park below. Previously the tiny lazy Manzanares River was barely noticeable because a major highway blocked access to the river. But in the 21st century, the Madrid Rio project was born. Rivaling Boston’s Big Dig, it took several miles of the highway and tunneled them underground to allow the land above to be reborn as a riverside park which opened in 2011. Today there are 33 bridges crossing the river, from the Renaissance to the right-now. The Arganzuela features two conical shapes that have been wrapped in interlocking metallic ribbons spiraling around the structure. The screens allow daylighting to pass through to the park below.

A lovely scene, Joan!!!! Beautifully composed ... colors are perfection. When I was there, about a million years ago, lol, I completely missed this!! I was enthralled by the old city itself ... but this vision is as breathtaking!!!!! Well seen and captured!!! l/f
