Description
It’s difficult to get enough of Moraine Lake, near Lake Louise in Banff National Park (Alberta Canada). I went in the morning when it was foggy, and despite knowing that I was going back again the next morning, I couldn’t resist an afternoon visit. No matter how many photos you take, you still feel the need to take just one more before leaving! Moraine Lake is one of the several impossibly aqua blue glacial lakes in the Canadian Rockies. Its distinctive color is due to the refraction of light off fine-grained, silt-sized particles of rock, generated by the grinding of bedrock by the glaciers and deposited in the lake on a continual basis. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho along with three provincial parks comprise a UNESCO World Heritage site. The seven parks of the Canadian Rockies form a striking mountain landscape. With rugged mountain peaks, icefields and glaciers, alpine meadows, lakes, waterfalls, extensive karst cave systems and deeply incised canyons, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks possess exceptional natural beauty, attracting millions of visitors annually.
