Moraine Lake near Lake Louise in Banff National Park (Alberta Canada) is one of the several impossibly aqua blue glacial lakes in the Canadian Rockies. From atop the 'rockpile' you get the famous view that graced the Canadian 20 dollar that were issued from 1969 to 1979. On a still summer morning, the mountain reflecltions turquoise water is nothing short of breathtaking. And no matter how many photos you take, you still feel the need to take just one more before leaving. The lake is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet (1,885 m). The surrounding peaks of the Wenkchemna Range all top out at over 10,000' (~3000 m). Its distinctive color is due to the refraction of light off fine-grained, silt-sized particles of rock, generated by the grinding of bedrock by the glaciers and deposited in the lake on a continual basis.
