Description
One of the first European persons to ‘discover’ what is now Goblin Valley State Park (Utah, USA), Arthur Chaffin, called the area Mushroom Valley. Whether you call the structures mushrooms, hoodoos, goblins, or something else, the area stands apart as a unique landscape. It’s fun to wander around the field of goblins since there are no paths. You just wander where your feet and your fancy take you, and hope that you don’t get lost. I felt like dropping breadcrumbs along the way would not have been a crazy thing to do! The rock formations are composed of sandstone and because of its uneven hardness, some patches resisted erosion better than others over the centuries. The softer material was removed by wind and water leaving the goblins behinds. Further erosion by water and wind shaped and smoothed the goblins. The work of Arthur Chaffin to photograph and make the area more well known let to its eventual designation as a state park in 1964.

Great capture! I keep meaning to get there for some dawn shoots but last few visits to that part of the world just didn't work out.
