Description
I read in several places that this church was worth seeing at night when the beautiful stained glass windows were illuminated from the inside. I imagined a brilliant display. Maybe it's the economy or the off-season but it seemed when we were there that there was only one light on the inside feebly trying to illuminate all the windows! And once the streelights came on, the effect was somewhat neutralized. Still, with the shadows from the trees on the side of the church, it made for an beautiful yet eerie scene. The Church of Our Lady of Sablon is located at Place du Grand-Sablon. It is also called Our Lady of the Sandhill. The church is considered as one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Brussels and was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Guild of Crossbowmen paid for it and it was their guild church.
