Description
If you have ever looked carefully at the U.S quarter for the state of Maine, this is the lighthouse that you will see! What a wonderful climb down the rocks to get this view, much better than if you just stay up on the grounds surrounding the lighthouse. This lighthouse was commissioned in 1827 by John Quincy Adams but the stone tower had to be rebuilt in 1835 due to poor workmanship. Some things never change....The lighthouse was automated in 1934 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Pemaquid Point Light on April 16, 1985.The lighthouse is owned by the US Coast Guard and the city of Bristol ME operates the the surrounding area as a park.
