Description
I loved this little window on Plum Island lighthouse. My sixth lighthouse on my first day in Massachusetts and on the way to Maine. It was getting toward sunset on a hazy, cloudy, about-to-rain evening. But I found it! Plum Island is a nine-mile long barrier island off the northern Coast of Massachusetts. The entrance to Newburyport's harbor was dangerous with shifting channels at the mouth of the Merrimack River. So the General Court of Massachusetts authorized the building a two small wooden lighthouses in 1787. The current structure dates from 1898. The lighthouse is now cared for by the Friends of Plum Island Light.
