Description
Portovenere is a medieval fishing village situated just south of the Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera. This charming village can be reached from the Cinque Terre by boat or from La Spezia by boat or by bus from the train station. I got there after a six hour hike from Riomaggiore in the Cinque Terre. All I wanted was to find some gelato, after which I’d be ready to explore. The colorful seven- and eight-story harborfront houses are a natural attraction as a starting point. In 1997 Porto Venere and the villages of Cinque Terre were designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
