Description
You think that once you get to Stewart Island New Zealand, you’ve pretty much reached the end of the earth. After all, there are only 381 people who live there and only 20km of roads; 85% of the island is national park. THIS is where you go to get away from it all. And yet…a trip to Ulva Island---totally unpopulated and even more pristine—is always on one’s ‘to-do’ list! So..on our first day on Stewart Island, we had planned a low-key day but after checking the weather it looked like it would be the best weather we’d see for the next week! So we hopped on the ferry for the short trip over to Ulva Island. This is Post Office Bay, the landing beach for the ferry. From here, you just explore one of the few predator-free sanctuaries in New Zealand along easy walking trails enjoying the birds, lovely beaches and views.

Very quiet, very remote. One wonders if the post office ever does make it here . . .
