Description
If you have been to Prague, you have seen this clock! It is on everyone's must see list. Masses of people gather on the hour to see the show on the striking of the hour. If you go a second time, go to the top of the clock tower and look down at all the people looking up at the clock. It's the second best show in Prague! The astronomical clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still working. The clock mechanism is composed of three main parts: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculpture--notably a figure of Death (represented by a skeleton)--striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. The clock and the city celebrated its 600 anniversary in 2010.
