Description
At night Prague Castle complex is ablaze in lights but at some point the lights go out and it is dark as dawn approaches. On this particular morning, the dawn light was all pink and blue and very delicate. It was a moment you wanted to stop in time to just drink in the delicate hues. But, as happens every day, time marched on and the magic moment was only a memory. This is the view that everyone comes to Prague for, the castle on the hill, with or without the Charles Bridge in the foreground. And on this morning, I was rewarded for getting up early! Prague Castle (Prazsky hrad) is where the kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside it. St Vitus Cathedral towers above it all. The Guinness Book of Records lists Prague Castle as the largest ancient castle in the world. It occupies an area of almost 70,000 m2, at about 570 meters in length and an average of about 130 meters wide.
