Description
There are the grand buildings in Prague, and then there are these fabulously colored and textured houses along other streets of Prague. These houses are on a street called Cerninska, leading from Loreto Square to Novy Svet. Although Novy Svet refers now to a single street, previously it referred to an area near Prague Castle. Developed in the mid 14th century to profice houses for the castle workers, the area was twice destroyed by fire, the last time being in 1541. Most of the cottages now date from the 17th century. It is now a favorite place for artists because of the romantic atmosphere and quietness.
