Description
During my walks around the neighborhoods, I pass by this sculpture in one of the parks. It stands all by itself in the middle of the park, seemingly blowing in the wind. I just love the graceful arcs of the body and arms. On the day that I photographed this, the light was better at the angle showing only the back of the sculpture. However, this seemed to project a freedom that is not evident when photographed from the front. From the front you 'capture' the face, from the back, the woman is moving to her own song, oblivious to any observers. There is no plaque to indicate the name of the sculpture or the artist. But online I was able to discover that this sculpture was part of the Fort Worth Public Art initiative whereby each council district was awarded the opportunity to nominate a city-owned site in their neighborhood (e.g., park, library, community center, fire station, police station, etc.) for a public art project. The Summer Creek Homeowners Association was awarded in 2008 and proposed to work with Fort Worth-based artist Michael Pavlovsky to create a stand-alone sculpture in CP Hadley Park. It is entitled Prairie Wind, representing the romantic notion of prairie wind. It sits on a 3 sided totem representing aspects of the North Texas prairie.
