Description
During my walks around the neighborhoods, I would pass by this sculpture in one of the parks. It stood all by itself in the middle of the park, seemingly blowing in the wind. I just love the graceful arcs of the body and arms. There was no plaque to indicate the name of the sculpture or the artist. But I kept in the back of my mind that one day I wanted to go back to photograph it, and finally I did. Online I was able to discover that this sculpture was part of the Fort Worth Public Art initiative whereby each council district was awarded the opportunity to nominate a city-owned site in their neighborhood (e.g., park, library, community center, fire station, police station, etc.) for a public art project. The Summer Creek Homeowners Association was awarded in 2008 and proposed to work with Fort Worth-based artist Michael Pavlovsky to create a stand-alone sculpture in CP Hadley Park. It is entitled Prairie Wind, representing the romantic notion of prairie wind. It sits on a 3 sided totem representing aspects of the North Texas prairie.
