Description
The Ranch House Café in Tucumcari NM didn’t quite make the transition from Route 66’s heyday to the status of ‘restored gem’. Its neon sign sits rusting on the roadside along with a dilapidated truck. Despite its run-down appearance, it’s one of the must-see photo stops in town! Route 66 was the “Mother Road” running from Chicago and LA, born in 1926 and playing a vital role in American life for several decades before the completion of the interstate highway system. One website says the slogan for the Ranch House Café was “Good Food Always – Always Good Food”, which doesn’t appear on the sign. The sign says Mexican Food which is absent in a vintage 50s postcard so it’s a mystery as to when that transition took place.
