Description
One of the best things to do in Seville Spain is climb La Giralda (the bell tower) to get sweeping views of the city. And it was the first thing I did, despite my jet lag from a flight from the US and then a train ride from Madrid. You are about 200' up, and there is nothing taller in the vicinity to obstruct your view. The view of the sunny city with orange tree-lined streets is mesmerizing. The ubiquitous orange trees give the city a bright sunny Mediterranean feel, even when the weather is cooler. And the rich ochre-colored buildings reinforce the sunny mood. I was happy to be visiting in January, since Seville is the hottest major metropolitan area in Europe, with summer average high temperatures of above 35C!
