Description
I'm not sure why, but climbing the ruins of the Moorish Castle in Sintra Portugal and being able to look far out to the west into the Atlantic Ocean was a highlight of my day! Maybe I would have been one of the explorers centuries ago who decided to sail west to 'discover' North America. Or maybe it's the freedom and liberation of seeing the vastness of the land and sea after the closeness and crowds of the city. Whatever the reason, it was a beautiful day to behold the sight, and get a rainbow as an added bonus. The town of Sintra are dotted with royal retreats, estates, castles as can be seen in the foreground. Due its many 19th-century Romantic architectural monuments, which Sintra has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a popular day-trip from Lisbon. I enjoyed seeing all of that, but the memory of this view stays with me.
