Description
The traditional inn near the Japanese Monkey Park in the Nagano Japan prefecture was located close to a hot spring and during the early morning the snow monkeys often congregated in the area. On the morning I decided to go out to photograph them, I woke up to a blizzard. But…the alarm had already gone off and the room was cold anyway, so I thought I’d give it a try! I spied some monkeys on the other side of the stream from the inn. I carefully picked my way down the snow/ice covered stairs and across the stream and tried to position myself upwind of the monkeys so that the snow wouldn’t instantly cover my lens! With the strong wind (you can see the snow blowing sideways here) my fingers were frozen in a very short time. The heart was willing but the head (and cold hands) won out and I soon headed back indoors!
