Description
You always take a chance when you book small, inexpensive, non-brand lodgings anywhere in the world! We decided in Seoul to stay at a traditional hanok, which are traditional Korean house. "It is a good opportunity to experience traditional Korean lifestyle and culture. The traditional houses available for hanok stays are decades to hundreds of years old. They have been somewhat renovated for the convenience and safety of its guests, but the traditional Korean style and sentiment are still retained." Sounded good to us! We found one in a good location, at a fantastic price, sign us up! We always figure that we spend little time in the lodgings anyway so if it's bad....well, **shrug**, chalk it up as a good story to tell. We arrived after dark and here are the directions from the metro to the guest house we chose: "At the top of the stairs, go right. Walk about 15 steps, take another right." Amazingly, it was precisely 15 steps! "This is a small street heading up hill. Now walk about 1 or 2 minutes. There will be a very small walk way on your right next to a small market, keep going. You want the next right, which is another small street heading up hill. This street is market by a large power pole and street light with a towing sign and a small green sign pointing in the general direction of the of the guest house." Again, directions are spot on! "Walk 20 steps, then take the first left. This is a dark, but safe, walkway/driveway." Hmmm....dark but safe....OK.... "There are many traditional looking residences and business in this neighborhood, just follow the remaining directions. Take the first right, this will be a walkway. Two doors on your left you will see a "Guest House" hanging sign. Press the call green lit call button." This door is the guest house doorway, the "walkway" in the directions is the path seen here. I gotta say, I was a bit skeptical that first night....And on the first morning out the door, there was SNOW!
