Description
The Hemisferic building, part of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia Spain, is a modern architectural wonder and a joy to photography at any time of the day! Here it is shot toward sunset with the sun behind the structure. The building is meant to resemble a giant eye when viewed from the side. Its design by Valencia native Santiago Calatrava resembles an eyelid that opens to access the surrounding water pool. The Hemesferic is the centerpiece of the City of Arts and Sciences, a unique complex devoted to scientific and cultural dissemination. It was the first building of the complex to be completed, in 1998. The entire complex is the most important modern tourist destinations in the city of Valencia and one of the 12 Treasures of Spain. The City of Arts and Sciences is situated at the end of the former riverbed of the river Turia, which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957. The old riverbed was turned into a picturesque sunken park and the water features of the City of Arts and Sciences are meant to bring water back to the area.
