Description
Four species of monkey are native to the forests of Costa Rica, the Central American squirrel monkey (Saimiri oerstedii) being one of them. It is the smallest of the Costa Rican monkey species, averaging 0.8 kg for males and 0.7 kg for females. ike most of their New World monkey relatives, squirrel monkeys are diurnal and arboreal. Unlike other New World monkeys, their tail is not used for climbing but as a kind of "balancing pole" and also as a tool. Their movements in the branches can be very rapid and it was only when this one paused for a snack that I could get a photo!
