Description
The Church of St John the Baptist (Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista) in Cinque Terre town of Monterosso al Mare is quiet on a Thursday morning. The Ligurian Gothic interior features original black and white marble columns with marble pointed arches along the side aisles. The church was built between 1244 and 1307. Monterosso is one of the villages of Cinque Terre, in Italy. Travelling southward from Milan, Monterosso is the first town and the most touristed, since it boasts a proper beach and is home to several larger, fancier hotels. Cinque Terre is a string of five centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of Italy. In each of the five towns of the region, colorful houses and ancient vineyards cling to steep terraces and fishing boats bob in harbors. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
