Description
Never one to pass up a good tower climb, I could not resist the opportunity to climb the south tower of St Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle....even though it was nearly sunset....even though it was raining. Yes, I know I am addicted to tower climbs. I could have come back another day but I would have had to pay the admission fee to the Prague Castle Grounds again. It's 287 steps up a winding staircase, nearly 100 m up. I tell people this is why I go to the gym and workout so that I can do these things! On this day we did not have alot of company up at the top so it was fun to enjoy the view in relative quiet and solitude. The Great South Tower of the Cathedral was founded in the late 14th century, then reconstructed in the 16th and again in the 18th centuries. The tower holds the biggest bell in the Czech Republic, called ikmund, which dates from the 16th century. You get to see some of the bell's workings during the climb.
