Description
The brochure explaining the hike from Varenna to Bellano, in the mid-lake area of Lake Como Italy had a picture of this stone house and bridge. If for no other reason, I wanted to make the hike in order to photograph them! Other than saying the hiking path crossed the stream, there was no other information on the stone house, leaving us to spin a tale over lunch as to who the house belonged to and what it was used for! The ducks were clearly used to people walking by on the path and probably feeding them junky human food because when they spied us, the waddled up the slope to the path and walked right up to us! (And no, we didn’t feed them!). The trail is called the Wayfarer’s Path (Sentiero Viandante) and runs for about 45 km along the eastern side of Lake Como, but the section we hiked was only bou6 6 km. Other than this stone house and bridge, one passes olive groves, interesting stone walls, pretty villages and churches, and fabulous views of Lake Como.
