Description
Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park British Columbia Canada is absolutely awe-inspiring as it thunders and crashes 1246 feet down the rock face with an 833 foot freefall. It looks huge from afar, which means it is overpowering in size when you try to walk up close to it! Naturally being a photographer I didn’t drive all that way for a ‘look from afar’ and I certainly wanted to take some photos up close. As you get closer and closer the thundering sound and the wind generated by the falls become intense! The spray from the falls also requires that you zip up your rain gear, despite the sunshiny day behind you! The waterfalls definitely create its own weather system. If you don’t want to take photos, you could walk up even closer and be immersed in the ‘sound and fury’. From where I stood, I turned with my back to the falls, cleaned the mist off the lens, set the settings, then turned around and quickly made my shot. Repeat as often as needed! "Takakkaw", loosely translated from Cree, means something like "it is magnificent". Truer words were never spoken! The falls are fed by the Daly Glacier which keeps the volume of the falls up during the summer months, and they are a tourist attraction, particularly in late spring after the heavy snow melts, when the falls are at peak condition.

Very impressive waterfall! Unfortunately I missed seeing it when we were in Yoho.
