The Imperial Palace in Tokyo Japan has been the home of Japan’s Imperial family since 1868 when the Tokugawa shogun was overthrown and the country’s capital was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. Ordinarily, the inner grounds of the palace complex are not accessible to the public so the viewpoint from Kokyo Gaien (a plaza in front of the palace) is the only place where you can clearly see the palace building. At this viewpoint you also see two bridges, the stone bridge in front called Seimon Ishibashi (nicknamed Meganebashi, Eyeglass Bridge) and a metal bridge behind called Nijubashi.
