Description
My first jet-lagged day in Toledo Spain and I was desperately waiting for sunset so that I could go to sleep! I walked around Toledo Spain on the opposite side of the Tagus River looking for a great sunset view. But time marches on and the sun sets regardless of whether or not I'm ready! In this view is the Puente de Alcantara, an arch bridge spanning the Tagus River. It was built by the Romans after they founded the city. In the Middle Ages it was one of the few entrances into the city for pilgrims. It was declared a national museum in 1921. On the hilltop to the left is the Alcazar. The Alcazar was once used as a Roman palace in the 3rd century, and was restored under Spanish kings in the 1540s. It played a questionable role during the Spanish Civil War but today houses a regional library and military museum. Despite the planning gone awry, it was still a beautiful view!
