Description
I was juggling an umbrella and a camera on a rainy day in the Napoleon courtyard of the Louvre Palace (museum) trying to take a photo of the perfectly aligned pyramids. I have a lot of photos of the black edge of the umbrella on the top edge of the field of vision but finally got one with no water spots on the lens and no umbrella in the picture! The pyramids were designed by Chinese American architect I.M. Pei and completed in 1989. The large pyramid, seen behind, serves as the main entrance for the Louvre. It has become a landmark in its own right, although it initially wasn't, and still may not be, universally liked. There are three smaller pyramids in the Louvre courtyard, one seen here, although they aren't as famous as their big brother. The large pyramid has an underground lobby beneath created because of a series of problems with the Louvre's original main entrance. Visitors now enter through the pyramid, descend into the spacious main lobby, and then re-ascend into the main Louvre buildings on three sides.
