In Reykjavik Iceland’s center is a birdwatcher’s haven called Tjornin. Though technically a lake, it is often called a pond due to its shallow depth. It can be home to over forty different bird species including Arctic Tern, Eider Ducks, Gadwalls. Greylag Geese, Seagulls, Scaup, Mallard Ducks, and (shown here) Whooper Swans. Birdwatching is a big pastime in Reykjavik, and the city is always cognizant of preserving the wild diversity in any management plans.
