Wormsloe Plantation is a very popular and iconic place to visit when you are in Savannah GA area The live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, what's not to love? For one, all the cars! Getting this shot was a challenge, waiting and waiting and waiting while any car along the lane disappeared out of site, while hoping another one would not then appear! The speed limit was 15 mph so when a car came along, it was there for quite awhile! This avenue of beautiful oaks leads to the tabby ruins of Wormsloe, the colonial estate of Noble Jones (1702-1775). (Tabby is a type of concrete made with oyster shells). Jones was a humble carpenter who arrived in Georgia in 1733 with James Oglethorpe and the first group of settlers from England. Wormsloe's tabby ruin is the oldest standing structure in Savannah. A testament to the opportunities that existed in early North America, Jones went on to serve the colony as a doctor, constable, Indian agent, Royal Councilor and surveyor, laying out the towns of A...
