About Joan Carroll
I am a Fort Worth Texas-based outdoor photographer who feels at home while on the road...in Texas, in the US, around the world. Although travel and photography were dual interests from a young age, the coming of the digital camera provided undreamed of opportunities and unleashed previously untapped creativity. My photographic goal is to travel the world in a curious yet respectful way, taking the time to see and understand the unique story of each place I visit. Wherever I go I want to walk every street, hike every trail, ride the bus or metro, climb every tower, walk around and through every monument, and then do it all over again when the light changes. In every place, light, mood, color, and form are an ever-changing palette for telling that special story. In either the built world or the natural world, I look for the beautiful and harmonious and try to bring that beauty to life in a two-dimensional environment of photography. Landscapes abound with beauty but often present challenges to present the vast majesty in a small image. On the other end of the photographic spectrum, the built world provides graceful and harmonious examples of lighthouses, county courthouses, covered bridges, and other historical or modern architecture set organically within their environments. Post-capture processing is the final tool to bring all these things to life, evoking an emotion and making the viewer feel like they have stepped right into the scene. Please feel free to visit my galleries at joan-carroll.pixels.com to see other examples of my work.
