This little chapel, the Oratory of Saint Rocco, was tucked away in the corner of the small piazza near the castle of the Cinque Terre town of Riomaggiore in Italy. I found it very intriguing as the location seemed remote and forgotten, there was no sign to indicate its name, it always seemed deserted, and seemed a bit run down. But there was also something very photogenic about it! I passed it several times a day for a couple of days, usually very early or very late when the light wasn't very good. But one day the door was open and the sun was just right! Inside there is a triptych over the altar representing the Virgin with the Child and Saints Rocco and Sebastian. I never did find out the name until I got home. The oratory was built in 1480 after a plague but aside from that I discovered little else. The little building is still very much an intriguing mystery to me.

Protected with PIXSY About Joan Carroll: I am a Fort Worth Texas-based outdoor photographer who feels at home while on the road...in Texas, in the US, around the world. Wherever I go I want to walk every street, hike every trail, ride the bus or metro, climb every tower, walk around and through every monument, and then do it all over again when the light changes. In every place, light, mood, color, and...
