Description
Tucked down alongside the New District side of the Galata bridge in Istanbul Turkey is the Karakoy fish market. In addition to be able to buy some fresh fish, you could also buy a fried fish sandwich from any of a number of stalls. I felt a little intimidated by the hustle and bustle and also by being one of the few women around but I eventually gathered my courage to get a fried fish sandwich just to say that I had done it! One thing is for certain, that was about the freshest fish I'd ever had! Just a few steps away from here you could buy all the fishing gear you'd need for a day of fishing off the Galata Bridge...and from the looks of the crowds on the bridge on any day, alot of people were doing this. Take a walk over the Galata Bridge from Eminonu to Karakoy, in fair weather or foul, and you can't miss the fishermen standing nearly shoulder-to-shoulder on the bridge's pedestrian walkway, their fishing rods tied to the rails of the bridges.
