Description
I stopped at the overlook and I admit, I had to search a bit to see it. Across Cliff Canyon perched on a ten foot wide ledge is the House of Many Windows. Like all cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde, the openings you see are not really windows, but doors that could have been covered with stone slabs or animal hides. From here you can see four doors remaining in the original eleven rooms. Above this is a toehold trail that leads to the upper alcove and one or possibly two rooms. The toehold trail then leads to the mesa top from this upper alcove. The structure built by the Ancestral Puebloans is located in Mesa Verde National Park in their former homeland region in what is now the southwestern corner of Colorado. Out of the nearly 600 cliff dwellings concentrated within the boundaries of the park, 75% contain only 1-5 rooms each, and many are single room storage units. Mesa Verde is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cool image Joan. It's been a long time since I've been to Mesa Verde, but who knows what might happen. Enjoy your work every time I see it.
