A hike that is supposed to take 2-3 hrs one way ends up taking me a lot longer when the scenery is so beautiful! Around every bend is another photogenic scene. This is Lake Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand viewed from the Minaret Burn Track along Lake Wanaka’s less explored west side. The trail is an easy one, mostly following a 4WD track that gently undulates alongside the lake on the way to Colquhouns Beach. It's an access road for the station owners, but we did not see any other people or vehicles. We did however have some interesting encounters with cows! Wanaka is located in the stunning alps of the South Island in New Zealand. Its lakes and mountains and proximity to Mt Aspiring National Park make it the perfect place for outdoor activities including hiking.
