Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall in northern Iceland is a little off the beaten track, particularly in winter. You likely can’t drive there in your own vehicle but need to enlist the services of companies that have ‘super jeeps’ with gigantic tires that can take you through snow, ice, and slush. Along the way, they make a stop to deflate the tires of the vehicle for better traction. Still, in the slush along the route we nearly got stuck a few times but after nearly an hour, we arrived at a parking area. It was very windy, cold, and dark. We put on crampons, shouldered our gear, and slid down the hill to the cliff overlooking the falls. For someone not used to wintry weather, it was a challenge to set up the tripod, get the camera on the tripod, get the filter system and remote shutter release on the camera, all without losing my gloves or having anything else blow away or slide away down the incline.
