Each town in the Cinque Terre region of Italy seems a world away from the others. Yet if you stand on the breakwater in the northernmost town of Monterosso, you can see all the other towns along the coast. Partly hidden behind the headland on the left is Vernazza while Corniglia is to the right perched on the cliff above the water. It is the only one of the towns not on the coast. Just past that farther right is Manarola. And if you know what you are looking for, you can just barely see the buildings of Riomaggiore peeking out beyond that. Above the towns are the vineyards that the region if famous for. Cinque Terre is a hikers' paradise! There are trails between all the towns, some tracing along the coast and others tacking higher into the hills.
