In driving from here to there in South Dakota, I chose a route that would not include the interstate highway. Initially it was all farmland but soon the road became unpaved. No big deal…I figured that would only be for a short distance. But time and miles went by and the road was still unpaved. And I wasn’t seeing any other cars. At all. Oh…and no cell phone service. I started worrying….what if I have car trouble?! More time and miles went by and I’m sill on dirt roads in South Dakota farmland. Your mind goes in strange directions. Eventually, I saw a sign that said I was entering Buffalo Gap National Grassland and the landscape became more scenic. I was still on dirt roads and it was still deserted…but at least it was pretty! So I took a break for some photos. Buffalo Gap National Grassland is one of 20 National Grasslands and is one of the most extensive, productive ecosystems in the United States.
