Artist's Description

One of the big attractions near Myvatn in northern Iceland is Hverir, the largest and most easily accessible of the country’s geothermal fields. Open the car door and you are assaulted with the smell of sulfur from the hydrogen sulfide in the steam from the steam vents and mudpots and hissing chimneys called fumaroles. As one website suggests: “If you’ve never smelled a rotten egg this is a good chance to fill this gap.” However, if you allow yourself to get beyond the smell, you begin to feel a deeper connection to power of the planet. Few places on earth will give you the sense that the very essence of the planet is pouring forth in a never-ending stream right before your eyes.

Wherever I go I want to walk every street, hike every trail, ride the bus or metro, climb every tower, walk around and through every monument, and then do it all over again when the light changes. In every place, light, mood, color, and...
