Description
Everyone has to take pictures under the pier in Oceanside California and I was no exception. The water is mesmerizing and you just take picture after picture hoping for the perfect wave. Lucky for me a surfer was passing from the north side to the south side to make things interesting! On the day of my visit in April 2013, the weather was perfect for strolling the pier. The sky was a bright blue and the temperatures mild. Spanning 1,954 feet, Oceanside Municipal Pier is one of the most notable piers in the western United States. It the longest wooden pier along the West Coast, and also the longest over-water pier in Southern California. The pier was was first built in 1888 at a different location, but was destroyed by storms in 1890. It was rebuilt in 1893 in its current location and the latest refurbishment was in 1988, The pier is a very popular fishing spot, and also houses a restaurant, snack bar, and bait and tackle shop.
