The view of the cathedral in Salamanca Spain from the patio of the Convento de San Esteban is one of the best in the city! Framed by evergreens with delicate morning clouds in the background, you couldn’t ask for a better scene! The cathedral is actually part ‘old’ cathedral and part ‘new’ cathedral. At the time of construction of the new cathedral (starting in 1513), the authorities did not want to tear down the old cathedral so the old and new cathedrals are joined at one wall and it is difficult to tell them apart. As a result, the initial construction of the new cathedral (starting in 1513) was in the Gothic style of the old cathedral but eventually morphed into the more ornate Baroque style by its completion in the early 1700s. The new cathedral was declared a national monument by royal decree in 1887.
