Description
The Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth TX has some large outdoor sculptures including one called “Conjoined”. ‘Conjoined’ is a 40 foot tall and 45 foot wide silver sculpture of two trees whose branches “cantilever in space and connect in mid air”. On a bright hot late summer day I photographed the intertwined branches glinting in the sunshine with the blue sky behind. Maybe the entire sculpture looks simply like two silver trees but the series to which this piece belongs is based on systems such as tree roots, industrial piping and vascular networks and embodies man’s complex relationship with nature. It was written that “The manufactured organic nature of these industrial pieces proves to be philosophically resounding in a world with our continuing conservational and environmental dilemmas.” For those who might be interested, the following link shows about 70 photos of the installation and the intricacy of the work: https://www.flickr.com/photos/themodern/sets/72157604383097948/
