Artist's Description
This photo was taken as a slide image in 1987 when I was on an ice diving trip in late spring in the Canadian Arctic. The trip began from Resolute, Nunavut Canada (at the time it was the Northwest Territories) on Cornwallis Island. We traveled in sledges pulled by snowmobiles across Cornwallis Island to Jones Sound where we went ice diving, and then on to Grise Fiord ("Place that never thaws out") on Ellesmere Island (also Nunuvut). Our way back to Resolute and then back south was this DC3, which landed on frozen Jones Sound on skis! The landing was an awesome sight to behold! The original slide photo survived many moves, and lots of dirt and sand, to be rehabilitated as a digital image. The trip was one of the most memorable and joyful of my life, and I am happy to have this image to remind me of the awesome arctic!
