Artist's Description

We attended a Japanese tea ceremony, called chado or sado (‘the way of tea’) in Kyoto. It is a highly ritualized and choreographed process rooted in Zen philosophy. The whole process is not about drinking tea, but is about aesthetics, preparing a bowl of tea from one's heart. It is said that it takes at least a decade to master the art of the tea ceremony. The tea ceremony we attended was performed by a maiko, a geisha in training. All her movements were slow, deliberate, and graceful. Seen here is the kama, the iron or copper vessel used for heating the water. The hishaku is the long bamboo ladle used to transfer the hot water from the kama to the bowl where it is mixed with the powdered green tea called macha.

Thank you for visiting my art galleries. If you love armchair traveling, I am confident you will find just the art or gift product that you are looking for! Art works are available as canvas prints, framed prints, acrylic or metal prints, wood prints, or posters....

Protected with PIXSY About Joan Carroll: I am a Fort Worth Texas-based outdoor photographer who feels at home while on the road...in Texas, in the US, around the world. Although travel and photography were dual interests from a young age, the coming of the digital camera provided undreamed of opportunities and unleashed previously untapped creativity. My photographic goal is to travel the world in a curious yet respectful way, taking the time to see and understand the unique story of each place I visit. Wherever I go I want to walk every street, hike every trail, ride the bus or metro, climb every tower, walk around and through every monument, and then do it all over again when the light changes. In every place, light, mood, color, and...
